Mission Statement:

At OliveWood Academy, we come alongside homeschooling families to challenge and inspire their children to discover their calling and purpose in the world. We create opportunities for them to discover their need for community, to give them skills to overcome and thrive through the struggles which shape them, and believe that together they can change the world for the Lord.

We listen humbly, challenge daily, and fail productively in order to discover our God-given, world changing calling.

The Bible is the inspired Word of God and forgiveness and reconciliation with God is available to all people through faith in Jesus Christ alone.  We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man and is our representative and substitute through His death and resurrection.

“He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.  In all that he does, he prospers.”  Psalm 1:3

OliveWood Academy began in 2019 through the Lord’s leading and a shared calling between Abby Tsao and Marcia Turpin—to create a place where homeschooling families would be supported, encouraged, and reminded that they are not alone in the work God has entrusted to them.

Our Guides:

Abby Tsao

Co-founder and Launch Studio Guide

Abby is a follower of Jesus, widowed mother of three children, ages 16, 13, and 11. Before homeschooling, Abby worked in marketing research, focusing on evaluating the effectiveness of advertising and improving operational efficiency within analytics teams. She enjoyed the strategy and problem-solving, but God redirected her path when her family stepped into homeschooling.

Abby is passionate about advocating for homeschooling and equipping parents to walk faithfully in their role as the primary educators of their children. She leads the high school Launch Studio, where she walks closely with students as they grow into thoughtful, capable young adults. She loves guiding discussions, mentoring student-led teams, and helping students navigate real challenges—especially when it comes to collaboration, ownership, and communication.

Some of her favorite moments are watching students persevere through difficulty, grow in maturity, and begin to understand who God has created them to be. Abby holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Statistics as well as a B.A. in Business Administration.

Marcia Turpin

Co-founder and Guide Support

Marcia is a follower of Jesus, wife to Tim, and mother of five children ages 28-14 years old. She has a degree in elementary education and began her homeschooling adventure 13 years ago.

She has taught in micro schools for the past five years and served on children’s ministry staff for more than 18 years. The cry of her heart is to come alongside children and families and identify the ways that God has uniquely gifted them and encourage them to use those gifts as they follow hard after Christ.

Marcia supports OliveWood’s Guides and Eagles across every studio, helping maintain consistency, strengthen our community, and ensure each studio has what it needs to thrive.

Jen Archer

Logic Studio Guide

Jen is, first and foremost, a follower of Jesus Christ. She is grateful to be Malcolm’s wife and the mother of four children. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and began her teaching career in kindergarten before following the Lord’s leading to homeschool her children. That journey has brought her deep joy as she has learned and grown alongside them, teaching and training them in God’s truth.

After serving as a Children’s Ministry Assistant for ten years, Jen is now excited to be a Guide at OliveWood. She finds great joy in watching children learn from one another and, even more, in witnessing their growth in Christ. Her prayer is that each child would know they are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God and choose to surrender their lives to Him (Galatians 2:20).

Emerson Archer

Discovery Studio Guide

Above all else, Emerson loves her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Next to him, children definitely hold a special place in her heart, which is why she adores being a guide at OliveWood. She recently graduated with her associate degree in education from Liberty University Online, a path she pursued because she can see herself working with kids the rest of her life. She loves the energy and creativity they bring to every day. She hopes that by imitating Christ she can make an impact in children’s lives by being an example of his love and selflessness. And, of course, the fact that she’s allowed to be fun and share lots of laughter on the job doesn’t hurt at all.

Olivia McMurray

Curiosity Studio Guide

Olivia is a follower of Christ who has been called to pour into children the love of our Heavenly Father and help them to build a firm foundation in Him. She is the wife of Andy and mother of 2 children ages 11 and 8.

She has worked in school districts holding different positions including; sign language interpreter, Substitute teacher and Early Childhood Paraprofessional. She also holds the position of Children’s Ministry Director here at Grace Evangelical church.

She is excited to see her family grow in Faith and Christian values as well as unity through this opportunity to homeschool her children. Her prayer is that each child will discover their own unique God given abilities and gain the confidence to stand out and stand up for their beliefs knowing they are called to be in the world but not of it! (John 17:14-16)
